Westwego Family to Receive New Home from ABC's Extreme Makeover : Home Edition and Sunrise Homes Team with Others
Company Participates in Volunteer Build as Part of Its 50th Anniversary Celebration
WESTWEGO, La – March 6, 2008 – Today New Orleans value homebuilder, Sunrise Homes, joined ABC-TV's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to help one deserving Westwego family receive a new home. A new home will be completely built in one week through the teamwork of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Sunrise Homes and other builders, contractors, landscape experts and home professionals from throughout the United States. The team represents 18 builders from 12 states coming together to help this deserving family.
This morning the Usea Family received the "door knock" from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's Ty Pennington and the Design Team informing them that they had been selected to receive an extreme home makeover. The Useas moved out of their severely distressed home, and in just seven days the team of designers, volunteer contractors and workers will demolish the old home and build a new home.
Brad and Laura Usea's home was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Even worse, Brad's mother, Grace's home was completely destroyed leaving her, Brad's older brother, Chris, and Brad's twin brother, Chad, all homeless. Brad and Laura took in their family members without hesitation.
In February 2007, tornadoes struck Westwego in the middle of the night causing more devastation to Brad and Laura's already battered home and destroying the trailer in the backyard where Chris had been living since Katrina. The family continues to live under one cramped roof while Brad and Chad, both volunteer firefighters, help the rest of the community rebuild.

On the same lot where their current home still stands today, Sunrise Homes along with a team of builders from across the country, Ty Pennington and the "EMHE' team, will build an expansive new structure that will allow the extended family members privacy and independence.
"We were honored to have been approached by "Extreme Makeover" and offered an opportunity to help a local family in need make their home one they can be proud of," said Mr. Larry Kornman, President of Sunrise Homes. "It is our strongly held belief that we are growing with the communities we have helped to create. We have been the beneficiaries of the faith and good will of those communities and we are eager to give back."
The seven-day build in New Orleans is the show's last stop on a 50-state tour and will wrap up the show's season. The build will be featured in a special two-hour episode that will air as the season finals on Sunday, May 18 at 7 p.m. CST.
