Celebration in the Oaks—A New Orleans holiday tradition

City Park’s largest fundraiser, Celebration in the Oaks, has been a cherished New Orleans holiday tradition since the late 1980s. More than just a light festival, this event is also crucial for maintaining City Park and making it even more beautiful as the years go by. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the wonder of over one million twinkling lights, making this festival one of the most spectacular holiday light displays in the country. 

For this event, you can choose between the 2.25 mile driving tour offered or the reimagined walking tour while you view these stunning light fixtures. The driving tour offers a magical journey through the park, while the walking tour features unlimited access to amusement park rides and entry to the elegant Botanical Garden. Either way, your visit to this event will be nothing short of extraordinary. 

Christmas in the Park at Lafreniere Park

Lafreniere Park, adorned with over 10 million LED lights, transforms into a winter wonderland for the Christmas in the Park event. Sparkling nightly from 5:30pm to 9:00pm (Sunday-Thursday) and 5:30pm to 10pm (Friday and Saturday), the park offers a festive atmosphere with elaborate decorations, artificial snow and enchanting light displays. Children and adults alike will be thrilled by the appearances throughout this event from a few beloved holiday characters, including Santa, Rudolph, Frosty, the Grinch and Elf, and the holiday spirit truly comes alive as everyone gathers to witness the magic of Lafreniere Park during this special time of year. Grinchman in Whoville

In the heart of Picayune, a whimsical holiday celebration is taking place with the 3rd Annual Grinchmas in Whoville. The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who are gearing up for a 3-hour bash where guests can immerse themselves in the enchanting world of Whoville, and for the first time, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also make an appearance.The event is packed with features that promise a joyful experience for everyone. From painting Christmas ornaments, raffles and door prizes to a hot cocoa and coffee bar and individual and family photo opportunities with the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, Santa and Mrs. Claus and Jack and Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
